Some of the lower priced examples I found had finish / cosmetic issues or barrels with too much wear. The rifle is to be used at CMP events, so I was more concerned with the barrel condition and overall function over original barrel and matching parts.īased on old auctions and browsing forums for sold rifles, the high price mark I set was $700 (not including shipping, I have a C&R so no additional fees for x-fer). I recently purchased a 1917 after researching current prices over the course of a few weeks. I think the thing that saved that bore/barrel from becoming a tomato stake was the thick coating of BP residue that eventually inhibited rust. btw, CMP bore all additional shipping costs). a condition that is right at the border of Pitted & Frosted.ĬMP, to their credit, had me ship it back to check my description, immediately downgraded the condition to Rack Grade and offered it back to me at the RG price ($350. The bore is uniformly, thoroughly and shallowly pitted. After a lot of careful work I removed the BLACK (black powder residue) and exposed the rifling. Unfortunately, something must have interrupted the inspection process because the bore was black with no evidence of rifling (the entire exterior is gorgeous, btw). The last one that I bought a few years ago cost me $450 and is VG/EXC condition with a pristine bore.ġ0 years ago when the CMP sold their first limited group of VFW rifles, I was happy to see that I had scored a Service Grade ($450). I would not go anywhere near $1000 for the pair. Springfield064, if the bores are stygian and look like 36 grit *I* would not bother with them unless I could get them very cheaply, like $300/ea.
I looked at 2 model 1917 rifles today. One a remington and the other a eddystone. Both rifles look totally original with the correct marked parts as best as i can tell.No rebuild stamps on either stock. The only numbers and letters that i could find on the stocks were A9 behind the second sling swivel on the remington and 1R behind the trigger guard on the eddystone. The remington does however have a eddystone bolt assembly.Only issue i see are the bores on both. They are as dark and pitted as can be with muzzle wear just over 3 on the remington and just over 2 on the eddystone. They both look good on the outside for there age,it is just the bores on both are so bad.The blueing on both rifles is dull.Nothing has been parked and i do not see any repairs to the stocks. They appear to be original finish.I could not get any pics, but would like to know what these rifles are worth in this condition with such bad bores. The remington barrel is dated 8-18 with serial number 475XXX and the eddystone barrel date 10-18 with serial number 1242XXX.Any help on values would be great.
